Barcelona hotels may fall out of line considering room rates compared to all other cities in Spain but to find a decent place to stay in Barcelona is an easy task. There is plenty of choice for budget hotels, Residencias (Spanish B&B) and more comfortable but well priced 4 stars with pool and sauna. Hotel standards are generally high and in line with other modern cities in Europe like Paris, London, Berlin or Milan.

Location and safety are equally important than the chase for a cheap hotel deal. Budget travellers with experience usually prefer the Barri Gôtic but if you are a women and on your own late at night keep your eyes open. The Eisample district is a much nicer part of town but also a bit more elevated in price. Directly along the Ramblas is a safe option and optimal location for all transports, including busses to the airports and the central railway station. Barcelona centre is not that big and staying at the Ramblas will give you the advantage to be close to pretty much everything you need or might want to see.

It might be worth paying a bit more for a hotel near the Ramblas. You will save time and money on transport but also have the clear advantage to be in the middle of a tourist hot spot where safety is the cities major concern.
